Personal Information
Originally from North Wales I currently live in Yorkshire and have established a private practice based in Kilnwick in the East Riding of Yorkshire offering therapy to private clients. I am a registered member (MBACP) of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, and as part of my continuing professional development have also completed my training as a Gestalt Psychotherapist and am now working towards accreditation with the UKCP. Following successful completion of which I will be an accredited Gestalt Psychotherapist with the association of United Kingdom Counsellors and Psychotherapists (UKCP).
I have practiced traditional martial arts for 35 years and have played the piano all my life. Music and writing is very much a part of my life and is something that some of my clients and I will use in our work together. Clients will sometimes bring their musical instruments or their writing or artwork into our sessions to help them articulate something that is important to them.
I primarily work in a Gestalt way with my clients, which enables me to work with what clients are saying and doing with their bodies as well as the content of their speech. Which often makes for interesting and refreshing sessions. I find Gestalt therapy is a wonderful theoretical model to use with clients because of its freeing and refreshing nature with regard to issues that people find themselves living with. It is non-judgemental and seeks to work with your lived experience rather than attempt to simply change your thoughts while leaving the core problem remaining at the heart of your experience.
